Guide to Search Engine Friendly Website

The reason for build a website is marketing your business over the web. But it will not happen automatically, because website is like a hoardings besides the road. It needs s traffic on road to get exposure for advertisement. In simple there is no meaning to build a website if visitors can’t reach it naturally. A major source of traffic for most sites on internet is by Search engines like Google, Yahoo!, Bing etc. Hence, by designing a search engine friendly website, your site will rank high in search engines that results to more visitors.

Major search engines use an Automated programs called Web Crawlers or Robots to read a web page content and store it within database. They follow links to a page, reads the content of the page and also record it in their own database, thereafter pulling up the results in to listing as people search for it.

To make a site search engine friendly you should avoid using frames (frame tag) on your website. Frames can be confuse search engine crawler/program. Frames also make it difficult for visitors to bookmark a specific page on your site. Now a days iframe is good with many search engine so may use the iframe instead, this will helpful at some level.

Do not display content within Flash movies or in Images. Search engine program can read text on your html source code so if you present a content within Flash movies or within Images rather than text, your search engine ranking will be affected. Some web developer place the hidden content within a page to compensate this, but this is not a natural way to index the content within search engine.

Use meta title, description, keyword tags accordingly on each page of your site so that search engine know what a particular page is and whether or not to index it. By using meta tags, you are making a search engine job easier so they will crawl and index your site better way.

Make Proper use of H1, H2, H3 tag within page content, search engine will easily identify important content based on H series tag. Make use of <strong> tag instead of <b> tag, search engine will give more importance to words within <strong> tag.

Avoid using old style tags like <font> to style your page. Use the CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) instead of inline css because they are more effective and efficient. By using CSS, you can eliminate redundant HTML tags and make your pages html code clean and faster to load.

I hope this will make sense to audit any website and take a decision either it needs to rebuild with better search engine friendly pages or keep as it, and losing the free traffic from search engine.

Thanks.
